Brafford

Erin homeschooled for 17 years. Her and her husband, Mark, have 4 adult children along with 5 grandchildren. Jan

Sanders

Jan comes to us with a degree in Elementary Education and years of experience with employment as a Teacher Assistant, Substitute Teacher, and Nanny; having worked in various different settings and with a wide span of grade levels. In these experiences, she found herself drawn to the kids who were “falling through the cracks”.

Jan also homeschooled her three children and experienced the challenges presented by ADHD and Dyslexia in two of her three. It was through homeschooling that Jan discovered her love of teaching reading.  Then she discovered the Barton System as an effective tool for teaching reading and spelling to those children in danger of “falling through the cracks”.

Jan has a passion for language, and has also enjoyed studying, and facilitating language learning for English, Spanish, and ASL; and serving, where needed, in her church and through JAARS (a local mission that assists Wycliffe Bible Translators in Bible translation efforts).

Dori

Kerr

Dori is a mother of three wonderful children, and grandmother to one amazing grandson. She has been homeschooling her youngest for 5 years, and discovered the Barton program after he was diagnosed with dyslexia. Witnessing her son succeed in school after implementing Barton, she felt the desire to help other children become successful as well.

Dori has experience in early childhood development and strives to understand the whole child.  She is currently studying ADHD and can empathize with children and parents dealing with its effects.  She is also keenly aware of the positive attributes that come with dyslexia and ADHD and values each child’s uniqueness.

Lily

Schifano

Since a young girl growing up in rural Ohio, one of Lily’s life-long passions has been learning.  For Lily, though, the most rewarding element of her quest has been the joy of seeing this same passion rise-up in each of her five children during the 20+ years as a homeschool mom.  But homeschooling was not without bumps as she came face-to-face with the learning challenges dyslexia presented in two of her children.  Thankfully, Lily was introduced to the Barton Program and was quickly amazed at the significant difference the tutoring made in her children’s lives.

Lily witnessed firsthand how the Barton Program’s specialized dyslexia tutoring helped her children thrive as they have gained the needed tools to again become confident and eager learners. Today, thoroughly convinced of the life changing difference a knowledgeable and supportive tutor can make, she has devoted herself to helping other children with dyslexia.

Lily loves encouraging her students in this journey as they become equipped to not only excel in reading and spelling, but in the change it brings in in all of life. Also, personally knowing how hard it is to see one’s child struggle with dyslexia, she has great empathy and a deep passion to support parents in this journey and is eager to help in whatever way she can.

As for results, Lily’s two children with dyslexia are doing great – one graduated Summa Cum Laude with a BA from a major university and the other is a straight “A” student in a public online high school.

Jenn has a Bachelors of Science degree in Computer Information Systems from Milligan University in beautiful east Tennessee.  She has mentored children in the school system for many years while teaching robotics, coding and computer literacy.  Jenn has a passion for teaching.

Over the past several years, Jenn has witnessed the struggles of young students who lacked proper intervention in reading instruction, including her own son.  Jenn sought out the very best training and curriculum for her son, which is the Barton Reading and Spelling Program.  Through this program Jenn has seen tremendous growth and a new found love of learning in children with dyslexia.

Jenn believes students learn best when engaged and are having fun, which is why she incorporates games and lot of laughs in each tutoring session.  Jenn’s first hand knowledge of the struggles students with dyslexia face brings compassion, dedication and conviction to her tutoring sessions.

Did you know dyslexics have a
strong ability to see the big picture?

They also tend to be more curious, creative, and intuitive than their non-dyslexic peers.
